Sands will take part in Mills on the Air for the first time this year. The event is in May and we will be located at Heron Corn Mill in Beetham, Cumbria. The callsign used will be GB4HCM.
Heron Corn Mill on the banks of the river Bela in Beetham; South Cumbria, is one of the few working mills in the area, and has been a base for local industry powered by renewable energy for over 900 years. A fascinating visitor attraction, the fourteen-foot high waterwheel powers all the industrial heritage mill machinery, and the soon to be installed hydro-turbine to generate electricity will further the sites history of water-powered renewable energy.
