I mostly discovered it via the series The Bletchley Circle (on ITV in Britain or PBS in USA/Canada). And there is lots of good info and discussion about both the Park and the series in various posts at the fan site: https://www.facebook.com/TheBletchleyCircleWatchersBletchley Circle Watchershttps://www.facebook.com/TheBletchleyCircleWatchersnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34686969.post-83201003842453583942013-05-17T17:20:07.460+01:002013-05-17T17:20:07.460+01:00"I could not help thinking that it would have..."I could not help thinking that it would have been good to also have a much simpler station on show. You have to ask: who really benefits from all that stuff? However, your information not only confirmed I was correct, but added so much more with regards to history, usage, and even the manual!!! Thank you so much for posting this information on this unique piece of scientific equipment. Interesting that it is still in use in some places today, although I would imagine that GPS has mostly replaced it. His story of how he was in Auckland working on the museum's Spitfire exhibit when he encountered a member of the Government and was granted Permanent Residence inspired me to go ahead and try for the impossible. While I was here doing just that, he passed away. I'm very sorry to have missed the opportunity to tell him about the hope he'd given us, to improve our lives so much.
What a lovely man, and a 'Good Bastard' as we'd say in New Zealand! His calming, peaceful demeanour on the radio was infectious. If you can be happy in your own skin, as he was, then you never fear for the future. He passed on that feeling to us very well. Unforgettable.
See you next time around, mate.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34686969.post-29278776330745204532011-06-20T08:43:27.287+01:002011-06-20T08:43:27.287+01:00Good work guys :)Good work guys :)Linda g0ylmnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34686969.post-49195730658953921772011-03-05T20:53:06.823+00:002011-03-05T20:53:06.823+00:00Thanks for the info on what this thing is!
